Terremoto
Another solo group. Ten intense days with another student that I welcomed
into my life. One or twelve is the same, I’ll always accept my students
because teaching is more than a way of making a living: it’s a mission.
It becomes clearer everyday.
Veronika and I spent several days in the unique Cuban countryside and
then the last few shooting on the magic streets of Havana. I introduced
her to my farmers’ friends. We shared fragments of their
existence, had some meals together, took pictures of their daily simple
rituals.
We’ decided to call the group Terremoto to honor Adanai’s wonderful
endless energy, my friend Fidel’s 5-year-old granddaughter. She is like
an earthquake always, jumping, cavorting, competing with her male cousins in
long running bouts across the tobacco fields. She is, above all, a very happy
and sensitive child.
Veronika was very gracious and generous with all the people she met.
It’s no surprise that the Goddess of Photography was very generous with
her too.
Ten images that show her personal experience, her growth as a photographer
who loves children and the elderly.
She listened to my teachings, assimilated them, made them part of her
new way of seeing life. My hope is that she will continue to photograph
youth and age wherever she will go to.
